School Dinners

Our school meal caterers are Dolce, who are a family run (third-generation) caterer, passionate about creating healthy home-cooked meals. Dolce believe that delicious food should be an important part of a child’s day; by serving nutritious, tasty meals they make sure that lunchtime is a highlight of a child’s school journey. Dolce’s ethos is based around homemade food and family values, as such the produce they use across their menus is cooked fresh from raw ingredients. Dolce are proud to offer children at Ralph Butterfield Primary school an exciting menu, to inspire them during their day of learning. All menus are nutritionally analysed to make sure that they are compliant with the School Food Plan and Government Standards and are well balanced to aid the health and growth of a child. Menus are planned termly, meaning the kitchen uses fresh, seasonal, locally grown produce.

How to Book a Meal

Meals are pre-ordered; pupils and parents can order from home, or on the move via Dolce's award-winning system, SchoolGrid. Families can look at the menu with their child and decide, together, what they would like them to have from the multiple options available to them. Orders can be made from anywhere using an internet enabled device, be that in the relaxed comfort of your own home or at the school gate if in a rush! You can pre-order up to one full term in advance, should you choose to.

Cut-off for ordering a child’s meal online for that day is 8.55am, daily.

School dinners are to be booked and paid for (if applicable) via SchoolGrid

The school office will arrange for your SchoolGrid account to be activated. If you haven’t received your login details, please contact the school office on 01904 768325 (Opt. 3) or ralphbutterfield.school@york.gov.uk

Cost of School Meals

School dinners are currently charged at £2.75 per day / £13.75 per week (from September 2024); children in Reception and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) are eligible for Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) and therefore have no charge applied.

It is more important than ever that families who are entitled to Free School Meals claim for these. Parents can check the criteria for FSM eligibility and access an application form by clicking here.

Allergies and Dietary Requirements

SchoolGrid (Dolce's ordering system) benefits from a sophisticated allergen blocking system, which prevents you and your child from ordering any unsafe meal options. When registering for your account, you will provide all allergen information and the system will take care of the rest.

Dolce list the main 14 allergens as recognised by the Food Standards Agency, however if your child has allergens outside of those listed, or additional dietary requirements, please contact their customer care line on 01942 707709 (Opt. 1) or customercare@dolce.co.uk

Should your child develop an allergy or intolerance going forward, please advise the school office, as well as updating your SchoolGrid account, as soon as possible. Thank you.
